As we begin our 4th year of homeschooling I look back at how far we have come. I had never homeschooled before but had always helped my 2 girls with their homework etc. When my husband and I were talking about homeschooling our youngest (who is 15 now) I thought, "Are you kidding me?" But as the lord begin to talk to me I being to step out in faith and we began the journey.
My first year was overwhelming and I had so many people telling what I needed to do and what books to use.
As we began to look at all the options we decided to put our daughter in a college pre homeschool program called Excel. It was the best thing we ever did. I worked on grammar and history here at home while out daughter took the rest of the classes at Excel.
Our daughter has a passion for music and because we are homeschooling this has allowed her to pursue her piano and clarient. What a talent she has.
I decided to have our daughter tested at the end of the school year and to show you that homeschooling works. Our daughter tested post-high school on every subject and is in the 90 percent of her grade level.
Some of the people we know have often asked us if our daughter just stays in bed all day and what is she learning if I don't have a teaching degree.
Well I have told them our schedule. Monday she is in class all day, Monday she has piano lessons, and then goes to Oklahoma Youth Orchestra practice. Tuesday is band practice, Wed she is another co-op for Spanish, Thursday she works on homework and we have clarinet lessons. Then Friday she goes to Oklahoma City University and takes piano lessons through the Performing Arts Academy.
Now I wouldn't call that just sitting at home and sleeping.
I hope I can be an encouragment to anyone who is homeschooling or wants to homeschool
I appauld you for giving your life to this high calling. What better a calling than to train and educate the next generation Each time you think it's time to give up. DON'T your kids are worth it

ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you what a great joy it was to homeschool my children. I will never regret that time in our lives. My memories are so precious, and the friends made during this time were irreplaceable. Keep up the good work.
